Kazakhstan plans to launch a virtual museum network — the E-museum web portal — by 2025, according to Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva.
The minister noted that the portal will ensure regular digital cataloging of the State Museum Fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan, based on international best practices:
“We will introduce visual and interactive technologies so that users from anywhere in the world can enjoy our cultural heritage through 3D models,” she said.
It was also reported that the system will include a comprehensive collection of information provided by all museums in Kazakhstan.
Open access to knowledge and public heritage is a global trend — particularly in the museum field. Today, nearly 100 prominent museums worldwide offer virtual tours.
This list includes the Louvre in Paris, the Natural History Museum in London, the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, the Van Gogh Museum in the Netherlands, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and many more.
There is hope that this initiative will be successfully and promptly implemented, allowing people worldwide — and Kazakh citizens themselves — to better understand the culture and history of the country.
