The head of ICRIAP announced the arrival in the Republic of Kazakhstan of the first batch of Starlink equipment in the amount of 500 sets.

The official personally came to Almaty to check the process of accepting the equipment.

According to Bagdat Musin, the delivery of devices to specific schools in the Turkestan and Akmola regions will begin over the next week. Akimats of these regions carried out all the preparatory work for the installation of Starlink.

Starlink equipment will be delivered to the rest of the regions from the next batch. In total, 2,000 kits will arrive within 20 days, which will provide high-speed Internet to 2,000 remote rural schools in the country.

“This became possible thanks to the decision of the head of state!” – Bagdat Musin emphasized.

Meanwhile, the legal status of Starlink in Kazakhstan has not yet been determined, and for the use of these systems, Kazakhstanis may face a fine, as stated by the head of the control department in the field of communications of the Telecommunications Committee of the ICRIAP Dias Tolegenov.

Musin confirmed the same information, emphasizing that using the Starlink Internet for personal purposes is illegal and unsafe. The connection of schools is carried out in a pilot project.

In January of this year, the Mazhilis in the first reading considered the bill “On introducing amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on communications, digitalization and improving the investment climate in the field of informatization,” which also concerns the legalization of Starlink.
