Floods disrupted the operation of power supply and communication facilities, so Starlink seems to be the optimal solution for efficiency and mobility.

The Ministry of Digital Development sent:

  • 30 terminals in Kostanay region,
  • 3 terminals in Aktobe region,
  • WKO 2 terminals, 1 set in the Ulytau region,
  • 6 terminals were requested in Atyrau region, 2 in East Kazakhstan region and 3 in North Kazakhstan region.

Starlink equips schools in the region to ensure a smooth learning process.

If necessary and if appropriate requests are received from akimats, the Ministry is ready to send additional terminals during an emergency.

In the city of Kulsary, 5 base stations were flooded; in Kostanay, the premises with the equipment of the largest cellular operator were washed away by water.

About a hundred industry specialists have been working on the ground since the first days of the disaster, constantly working to restore base stations.

“Today, mobile operators are carrying out work on the ground: replacing non-working equipment, evacuating equipment from areas at risk of flooding and evacuated areas where there are no people, moving equipment above the water level. Connection of diesel generators where there is no electricity. Mobile operators are working with akimats on the issue of transporting bags, providing equipment, and delivering diesel fuel,” Albina Aten, representative of ICRIAP, told reporters.

The ICRIAP also emphasized that during emergencies it is especially important to be in touch: ask for help, stay in touch with loved ones, coordinate joint actions to evacuate or combat spilled water.

Cellular operators awarded bonuses to tariff plans for subscribers located in the flood zone. For operational communication, the Aktobe region akimat also received Thuraya satellite phones from the Ministry.
