The press service of the MCRIAP reported on an unscheduled inspection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan after leaked information about cyber espionage.

It is noted that the incident had been known for a long time, but they decided to conduct an inspection only now.

“Cyberattacks by a hacker group using CherrySpy and Hatvibe files against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan have been recorded by the State Technical Service as part of monitoring the state of security since the second half of 2023,” the press release of the digital ministry says.

Last year, the State Technical Service and the MCRIAP already checked the technical security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But due to “newly discovered circumstances,” a new, unscheduled inspection will be conducted in the near future. Further measures will be taken based on its results.

"To enhance information security, measures are being taken to equip information security systems (ISS) of all workstations, including equipment used in foreign institutions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the MCRIAP assured.

The ministry considers it premature to conclude that Russian hackers are behind the attack (this is the priority version of the Sekoia company, which made information about the incident public).

"Constant monitoring of the level of security of information systems is organized, and software is regularly updated and resistance to cyberattacks is increased," the MCRIAP reported, speaking about the protection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
