The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan have developed an order to launch a pilot project allowing citizens to change their passports and ID cards online.
This initiative will enable Kazakhstanis to renew their documents via the e-Government portal and the eGov Mobile application when their validity expires.
“The project's goal is to transition the public service ‘Issuance of passports and ID cards for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan’ to an online format as an alternative to the current procedure, with the pilot program running until March 1, 2026,” the explanatory note states.
The authors of the project claim that its implementation will not lead to any socio-economic, legal, or other negative consequences, nor will it pose risks to national security. They also note that the initiative does not require additional financial expenditures.
Public discussion of the document will continue until March 19, 2025. The order is expected to come into effect after its official publication and will remain valid until March 31, 2026.
