Data processing is carried out entirely on the device, without transmitting information to Google servers. The feature is completely user-controlled and can be disabled at any time. The feature is available for owners of Pixel 6 smartphones and newer, but for now only in the US and in English.
The technology is based on the Gemini Nano AI module, first used on Pixel 9 devices. Thanks to it, the system can quickly and effectively recognize fraudulent calls, which is especially important in the context of the growth of such threats around the world.
Google has also updated the Google Play Protection system, adding a real-time threat detection function. The innovation allows you to identify malicious applications by analyzing their behavior, work with permissions, and interaction with other services.
At the first stage, the new function will focus on combating stalkerware that collects data without the consent of users. When a threat is detected, the user receives a notification with the option to immediately remove the malicious application.
As in the case of Fraud Detection, data processing within Google Play Protection occurs on the device via Private Compute Core, which eliminates the transfer of information to external servers.
The function is already available to users of Pixel 6 and newer, and in the future it will be extended to other Android devices.
Thus, Google aims to make protection against malware available to a wide range of users.
