The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan has updated the standards for electronic textbooks and teaching aids in schools and preschool organizations.
The corresponding order was signed on September 18 and will come into force on October 7 of this year.
The requirements additionally include the following provisions:
- use of a clear (user-friendly) interface;
- use of feedback and control tools;
- availability of navigation prompts;
- availability of multimedia content and interactive tasks;
- provision of key topics, concepts and terms with hyperlinks to explanations and dictionaries.
The information must be presented in a vertical orientation of a scrollable HTML page.
The textbooks and teaching aids must function on common computer and mobile devices and their current operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, Android, IOS).
Use — common free browsers or reading programs.
Playback of audio and video materials should be carried out without the need to install additional plugins.
Content must be posted on electronic educational platforms with online access and on external storage media with offline access.
An important requirement is to ensure the safe storage and use of personal data of teachers, students or parents using electronic textbooks and educational and methodological complexes online.
Texts must be available for copying and searching, with scaling elements.
In general, the new standards include many more technical and methodological requirements, but some of the important innovations are:
- materials must provide the ability to individualize and personalize learning;
- textbooks must contain gamification elements to increase motivation.
