Apple Watch and AirPods Pro users in Kazakhstan have gained access to a new suite of medical features that were previously unavailable in the country. This was announced by the Ministry of Health following negotiations with Apple representatives.
The digital health-monitoring features are now officially activated and comply with international standards.
Until recently, Apple’s medical features were only available in countries with approved regulatory frameworks — such as the USA, Canada, Germany, the UK, and Australia. Kazakhstan has now joined this list.
The activation was part of a collaboration between Apple and national health authorities.
Highlights of the new features:
- One of the key innovations is the ECG function. Owners of Apple Watch Series 6 and newer can record an electrocardiogram directly from their wrist. The 30-second scan helps detect signs of atrial fibrillation — a potentially dangerous heart rhythm disorder. Data is saved in the Health app and can be shared with doctors.
- Another important feature is sleep apnea detection, available on Apple Watch Series 9 and later. Users receive alerts if abnormal breathing patterns are detected during sleep, enabling early diagnosis and medical intervention.
- The second-generation AirPods Pro now support a “Hearing Test” function, which assesses the user's ability to hear different frequencies. The five-minute test helps detect early signs of hearing loss. Results are stored in the Health app.
- A new “Hearing Aid Mode” is also available in AirPods, helping users with mild or moderate hearing loss. It acts as a personalized sound enhancer, improving speech clarity and environmental sound perception, and can be configured automatically or using a professional audiogram.
These features are not intended as a medical diagnosis or treatment. The Ministry of Health emphasizes: devices are helpful tools for everyday wellness monitoring but are not substitutes for doctors. Any alerts should prompt professional consultation.
The Ministry has pledged continued collaboration with tech companies, prioritizing solutions that support disease prevention and early detection.
Authorities hope further partnerships with tech giants will enhance public health and the accessibility of advanced digital tools.
