The leaked database exceeds 36 million data of clients of microfinance organizations not only from Kazakhstan, but also from Russia (23.6 million), the Philippines (5 million) and Vietnam (2 million).

Based on the results of identifying the affected customers, the Ministry of Digital Development (MDDID) will send relevant notifications to citizens through the EgovMobile mobile application.

GTS JSC established that the affected Kazakhstanis are clients of zaimer.kz (MFO RoboCash.kz LLP).

The leaked data contains:

- Client ID and full name;
- Phone numbers, passport and IIN;
- Email;
- Date and place of birth;
- Amount of children;
- Position, address;
- And other extremely sensitive information.

ICRIAP recalled responsibility for violation of the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on personal data and their protection, which is regulated by administrative and criminal legislation.

It is also worth recalling that it was the experts of the Eurasian Digital Foundation, Ruslan Dayrbekov and Elzhan Kabyshev, who participated in the working group to develop the law on information security and, among other things, recommended documenting any violations of personal data security and further notification of affected citizens.

In addition, the Ministry published a number of recommendations to improve personal digital security:

  • Establish a voluntary refusal to receive loans;
  • Do not share passwords, SMS codes or bank card details with anyone;
  • Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication;
  • Do not click on suspicious links in instant messengers and emails.
